After a grand total of 9 hours hauling myself in my Kia Soul clear across the state of Nebraska, I finally arrived at the home of my friend Dylan, in one of my favorite cities, Denver. While I’ve made things work and have grown to develop a life in Omaha, I have a soft spot for this city. Its dry air, reasonable weather, dog-friendliness, and quaint atmosphere leave me eager to come back each time. Just two months earlier, I came out here for just one full day after Dylan told me he had an extra ticket to see Primus at Red Rocks, which I happily flew out for, due to the visit being so short. Since I plan to stay through the weekend this time, I made the extra effort of driving. Plus, there’s some places I want to visit, so the extra car space is nice to have. During that drive, of course, I listened to music. I like to mix up my travel playlists and give attention either to new music, or to albums that I haven’t heard in awhile. This time, I did both. I started with my download of Marillion’s 2018 show in Atlanta, GA, which I was lucky to be right up front for. After enjoying that, I moved onto the first album from Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds, an album I played quite often during my junior year of college. Normally, I’m not too impressed by bonus tracks, but this album has some solid ones. I once played this album for my friend Rachel Flowers, and I remember she took a strong liking to the female backing vocals. She ended up recording a cover of “The Right Stuff,” which she nailed down to a tee.
