I took the above photo way back in 2011, during an onstage tour of Joe Satriani’s stage gear. It was January 16, 2011, at the Orpheum Theatre in my hometown of Los Angeles. Even at the age of 14, I figured, “When else am I going to get to stand on the stage of my favorite concert venue?”, so I snapped this towards the end of the tour. Still one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken.

I know of some people that will be at Steve Hackett’s shows tonight and tomorrow at that very venue, so that’s what got me thinking about it. I think the last time I was there was to see Geddy Lee on his book tour for his autobiography in 2023. Still, I have many fond memories of seeing shows there since April 2010, when we saw Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. I regrettably do not have any surviving photos from that night, but I remember it as vividly as the night I saw it.

Other artists I’ve seen there over the last 15 years include Greg Lake’s Songs of a Lifetime tour, Steve Hackett numerous times, Yes, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, and King Crimson. Many more besides them, but each show there has left its mark on me in some way, some more-so than others.

Omaha has its share of charming small music venues, and I know that there are many Orpheum Theatre throughout the States, and maybe in other countries, too, but the one in my hometown that has hosted so many special shows for me will always be near and dear to me.

So having said all of that, please enjoy this mini photo dump of what I call, “The Best of the L.A. Orpheum!”
