I paid a visit to Homer’s Music yesterday in Omaha’s Old Market. I’ve made a few good visits there in the time that I’ve lived here. The thing I’ve learned about these small record stores is that they often a ton of cool stuff despite their small size. Homer’s is definitely one of those. The last couple of trips I focused mainly on CDs, Blu Rays, and concert movies, but yesterday I decided to look at some of the used vinyl. After a little bit of browsing I came across this live album by the band The Europeans, which I recognized as being the band Marillion’s Steve Hogarth (h) was in before joining Marillion. For just $2.99, I scooped it up and made it mine. H is even pictured on the front cover!

I’ve only listened to the first side so far, but I’m liking the sound. Musically, it gave me 70s Rush vibes, especially the guitar work. H doesn’t sing on all the tracks. Some are sung by Ferg Harper, another singing bass player! Being the big Marillion fan I am, I instantly recognized baby H’s voice when it came on. 1984 is the year printed on the spine, though I’m not sure if that’s just the release year, or if that’s the year the show was recorded. It’s always fun to discover something obscure when you go record shopping. It’s one of the reasons I support physical media. I think it’s infinitely more fun to dig through rows of albums or piles of CDs instead of scrolling on a screen. I find the endless options offered from digital markets to be kind of overwhelming at times, sometimes fatiguing, but visiting a store of used media is always relaxing and calming for me.
