I was thinking last week that it had been a really long time since I had last held or received a printed picture. Growing up in the early 2000s, I think I’m part of the last group of people who has at least some memory of using cameras that had tape roles before phones took over. All pictures were taken on cameras and then taken to the local pharmacy or office supplies store to be printed into a 4×6 picture, or smaller or bigger, depending on how they would be used. My sister and I were given photo albums in which to store these memories. My mom was also big into scrapbook-making, so we spent plenty of time flipping through stacks of Office Depot-printed images of days at school, vacations, and so on. I still have the mini scrapbooks my Mom made for me and my sister at the end of each school year from kindergarten through fifth grade, though they’re stored somewhere back in California.
Anyway, this nostalgia inspired me to take some of the photos on my phone and computer and bring them to life by getting them printed into 4×6 pictures. I took advantage of Walgreens’ 1-hour photo print services, and within that time, I walked out with a stack of 40-something photos, packed in an envelope, like old times. I mainly chose photos from Cruise to the Edge, as well as some photos of special encounters with different artists. I especially wanted to get some of my Marillion-related photos printed so I could frame them and hang them proudly. I took a trip to the Dollar Tree and picked up a handful of frames of varying sizes. Looking back, I probably should have bought the frames first, so that I could decide on what size to make each photo, since not all the frames I got can fit 4×6. Regardless, here’s what I have so far. Sorry, the lighting in my place isn’t great, and I’m working on making that frame containing my Marillion ticket stubs a little neater:
