I think I should start making a list of topics I want to write about in future posts. It would undoubtedly help prevent writer’s block and give me ideas when I’m feeling stumped.
First, I wanted to share these super cool Primus prints I bought from photographer Jordan Kravitz. We connected at the New Year’s Eve run of shows a few months back and got in touch on Instagram. I’m thrilled to have these, but will keep them housed in their packaging for now until I can get some proper frames for them. I will leave a link to Jordan’s Instagram in the comments!

I had a productive weekend, with the little voice inside me being uncharacteristically supportive and urging me to go to my local Guitar Center with one objective: buy a guitar. I didn’t want to break the bank on anything special, but I wanted to buy one just to have one, since I don’t know when I will be reunited with the guitars I have back in California, the ones that have been collecting dust for many years, regrettably. I spent quite a bit of time with the electric guitars, even eventually feeling brave enough to plug into some amps and try some effects out. Around me, I could hear others playing the songs you hear people jamming to in just about every music store. You know, “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica, “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple, “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath. I plugged in a red Fender Strat and started working out some Marillion songs, mainly “Kayleigh” and a few other H-era songs. But since I have an electric guitar already at my place, I was looking for an acoustic guitar. I had a few specifications, though. I’m someone who likes versatility, especially since I live in an apartment with limited space, so I was looking for an acoustic guitar that had a cutaway design, was acoustic-electric, and was budget-friendly. I browsed and, after a lot of picking up, strumming, and thinking, I managed to narrow my options down to two choices:

You really can’t go wrong with Fender, in my experience. I know the tan one is a twelve-string, but I remembered we talked about getting one quite a bit when I was a teen, but it never happened, largely due to me falling out of playing at all. This one met all the same criteria as the six-string, so I ended up buying both of them. I was able to take the twelve-string home that day, but they have a holding period on used gear, so I won’t be picking up the six-string until some time next week. The six-string had actually only been brought in the day before, so lucky me!
I’m still looking for ways I can get word out about this blog. Going forward, I’m going to keep some of my cards on hand, since I’ve run into a couple of situations where I could have given some out. I found a bulletin board full of music networking opportunities, like business cards for podcasts, and flyers posted by bands in need of a specific musician. This would have been the perfect place to leave a few of my cards, or to maybe even post a flyer. Either way, I’ll keep some cards on me for the next time I go.
