Crazy that it’s already May! We’re sadly slowly creeping out of sweatpants weather and inching closer to using my cooling sheets full time. Even as a SoCal girl, I’ve never liked extreme heat. But on the bright side, I have a few concerts coming up this month that I’m excited for!
First, I have Alter Bridge this Saturday at the Steelhouse. This was a last minute discovery that I made on Tuesday when looking through an email from Ticketmaster about upcoming events. I don’t know how I missed this one,, but I’m glad I found it. I don’t know a ton of Alter Bridge, apart from their albums One Day Remains and Blackbird, but I’m sure it’ll be a fun show!
On Sunday, this is not a concert, but I’ll be going to a regional production of Mamma Mia! which I haven’t seen in many years. The last time was in 2007, I believe. It was when the show had a residency at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Vegas. I’m eager to see it again and see what the experience is like watching it as an adult compared to when I was 10 years old!
Next Tuesday the 5th, I have the first of two shows at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City: David Byrne. I missed him the last time he came around in the L.A. area, so I’m glad he’s doing another round of shows and ended up stopping the next big concert city over from me. I have high hopes for this show after watching American Utopia, and a few friends who have gone to see him have spoken highly of the show he puts on.
Later in the month, I’ll be driving down to Lincoln to see Styx at the Pinewood Bowl. I haven’t seen them since 2011, when they co-headlined with Yes. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, so I’m wondering how their shows have held up over the last 15 years. I remember seeing a billboard for them when I went out to Vegas at the end of January, but I think that was for a residency show. Either way, it’ll be good to see them again.
Last, I’ll be wrapping up May with my second show in Kansas City, and the show that I’m, personally, most excited for: Claypool Gold. This isn’t the same lineup of Claypool projects that I saw at my first Primus New Year’s run in 2024. The lineup this year will feature Primus, along with The Claypool Lennon Delirium (who have a new album coming soon), and The Frog Brigade. I preordered the new CLD album on the Primus website, along with a few other cool merch items that will be shipping later in May.
That’s about it for now! Here’s a photo of Sonny!
