A Prog Rock Music Blog

I have a dry spell for the next couple of weeks before the next concert, so this will be a quick post today. Even when I’m out and about in my day to day life, I like to take advantage of any opportunity to give prog at least a little bit of public awareness. Back in California, the local bar I would frequent for an after work beer had a TouchTunes jukebox you can connect to via an app on your phone and play music on. I played all sorts of prog tunes, especially ones that I felt were highly unlikely to be heard in public settings. I played a ton of Marillion, Rush, Steven Wilson, and Alan Parsons Project. Between you and me, I think “Don’t Answer Me” is a perfect “pub song.” It’s got that warm feeling to it that I think adds to the atmosphere of a small, laidback bar. Anyway, apart from observing an occasional approval or conversation amongst friends related to a particular song, no one seemed to pay much attention. Heck, the time I played the entire “2112” suite, no one batted an eye. Still, the joy of hearing these songs playing through those speakers made it worth it. I haven’t found a place out in Omaha that offers a TouchTunes jukebox, but will definitely do this again if I do find one.

Nowadays, I go to swim laps regularly at the local YMCA just down the street from my apartment. Every week, the staff writes a question on a whiteboard that swimmers and other patrons can freely answer with the provided markers. Here are a few that I decided to weigh in on. See if you can find my answers!

(Disclaimer: I know Marillion doesn’t technically classify as a celebrity, at least not on this side of the pond, but they do in my eyes!)
