My dad arrived in town last night and will be staying for the next week! We’re making tentative plans to check out some local live entertainment. I think we’re set to go to The Backline comedy club in the Old Market this weekend, and we may also stop at a local venue to check out some live music. Even after being in Omaha for nearly a year and a half, I haven’t really made an effort to attend local concerts as much as I should, both in Omaha and in Lincoln, the latter of which is said to have a fairly vibrant local music scene.
I know I brought awareness to my upcoming song with Rachel Flowers, but I also wanted to quickly mention some new tunes that have been put out by friends of mine.
First off, my friend Christine Goulet released her first album, Data Queen. I just received my vinyl copy of the album and am very excited to hear what she has created. She’s also backed by an impressive lineup of other musicians, including Tony Levin. Christine has been a friend for a number of years now, and I was introduced to her by another friend I have known a little longer, my friend Brett. We bonded over prog, especially over our mutual love of Rush, and we frequently ran into each other at concerts throughout the Los Angeles area. That is one thing I really miss about life in LA, the sort of musical community I cultivated over the years with a core group of people who either lived in the area, or frequently traveled to the area for shows. We kept each other in the loop whenever a band or artists would put out a new record, share presale codes for concert dates, and make plans to get together for dinner or meet up someplace close to the venue on the day of a show. At times, we would also end up seated in close proximity to each other, a section or two, or even a few rows over! Christine has been part of that group for a long time and I’m super excited for her new endeavors in writing original music!

Then there’s my friend Sandy, who’s in the Nebraska area. She goes by Yellow Sun Doll on Instagram. My evening work schedule does not permit me to come to her live performances, unfortunately, but I’m happy to support her any way I can. She’s really lovely and just announced an album called Roses and Strawberries. You can check out her Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/yellowsundoll
