I admit I don’t have a ton to write about tonight. The work week is over for me, and I’m finally home, and finishing the last couple pieces of the Indian jalebi I had in the cabinet while I type this. I haven’t started packing for Chicago yet but will tomorrow. For some reason, I’m a late packer, especially for really short trips. It hasn’t caused any adverse events so far, thankfully!
It’s a 7.5-hour drive out to Chicago excluding stops, so I’m thinking of what I’d like to listen to during that time. I have a couple of audiobooks I’d like to finish, one of which is Bernie Taupin’s memoir, Scattershot, which I’m just under halfway through. It’s been a great listen so far. I’m surprised at the way this memoir is being told. I was expecting it to be a sort of retelling of Elton John’s career, just through Bernie’s eyes, but it’s turning out to be much more than that. I’m nearly halfway through, and Elton’s career has barely been discussed, but I’m ok with that. I think musician/artist memoirs get a rap for being predictable and full of the same expected peaks and valleys that accompany their lives and careers, so I appreciate when someone deviates from that formulaic storytelling and tries a new approach.
I think I’ll utilize Spotify to revisit some Lana del Rey material and continue exploring the discographies of artists like Taylor Swift, Interpol, Olivia Rodrigo, and who knows what else.
I am bringing my laptop with me to Chicago so I can write out my thoughts on the two Rush shows next week! The shows are on Monday and Wednesday, which fits perfectly into my writing schedule for this blog.
