A Prog Rock Music Blog

This afternoon, I got to participate in a multi-part interview with Warren Kurtz of Wildfire Music. It primarily featured my friend, Rachel Flowers, but I sat in one the first part to talk about our song, “Protocol,” which was released on Bandcamp not too long ago. I was thrilled to learn that Rachel performed the song live for the first time with Estronaut over the weekend at ProgStock. A mutual friend of ours sent me the link to the livestream of the festival so I could watch the performance myself. I beamed at the sight of this song, which is 9 years in the making, being performed for an audience by top-tier musicians. I learned that Estronaut were a great success at the festival, which doesn’t surprise me at all.

It was a Zoom interview, and I was online for only about ten minutes, but we discussed the writing process, as well as the history of our friendship and how we met. We met for the first time back in 2011 in Santa Monica, on Mother’s Day, if I remember correctly. I was 14, and convinced my family to go down to a church where Rachel was performing with a three-piece jazz trio. I discovered her much like many others did, through her ELP covers on YouTube. It was fun getting to retell that story and relive my early years as a prog fan.

I’m not sure when the article will be posted, but I will make sure to share it when it is!
